On the first day of the second unofficial Test match against the England Lions, senior Indian batsman KL Rahul made a spectacular start to his tour of England by smashing a century. KL Rahul changed gears after the start of the lunch session, after playing 100 balls, which placed a lot of pressure on the Lions. Early on in his bat, Rahul was cautious, choosing his shots carefully and allowing the ball to come to him.

He took his time, achieving his half-century in 102 balls while batting in cloudy conditions and up against a new England Lions pace attack. However, after calming down, KL Rahul changed his strategy and launched an attack, doing so with remarkable poise. He reached his century in 151 balls after gaining confidence and executing a variety of sharp strokes, including his signature cover drives. After India A lost two early wickets, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both LBW to Chris Woakes in the first 11 overs, his performance served as a stabilizing factor.

KL Rahul's hundred gives him huge confidence boost

Karun Nair, who has been playing well himself, and Rahul first built a solid 86-run partnership. Before Woakes caught him LBW, Nair, who had made a double century in Canterbury's first unofficial Test, appeared to be in good form. With Dhruv Jurel, Rahul expanded on that foundation by adding a remarkable 52 off 87 deliveries. Through the middle session, India A maintained control thanks to their 121-run partnership.

Nitish Kumar Reddy put up a useful 34 runs even after Rahul was out, putting India A in a commanding lead by the time of stumps. Moreover, Rahul's innings will give him a huge confidence boost. He is expected to be the star batsman in the next Test series after being one of India's safest hitters in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–2025.
