Delhi Capitals stormed to the top of the table in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an easy win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Local boy KL Rahul was the hero of the game with his composed 93 not out from just 53 balls with the help of seven fours and six huge sixes. The winning runs came when Yash Dayal bowled a low full toss at Rahulโ€™s leg and the batter deposited the ball deep into the fine-leg region for a six.ย

Once the shot was hit and the game was won, cameras panned to Rahul, who was thumping his chest. It was clearly an emotional moment for the 32-year-old as he led Delhi Capitals to the win with 13 balls left to spare. At one stage Delhi were struggling at 58 for the loss of four wickets when Axar Patel was out for 15 runs.ย

It was RCB who were asked to bat first and the hosts posted a mere 163 on the board. At one stage the hosts were 53 for no loss after just three overs thanks to Phil Saltโ€™s 37 before the English batter was run out. None of the RCB batters barring Tim David, who scored 37 not out, were able to face up to the DC bowlers.ย

Chasing 164 to win, Delhi lost the wickets of Faf du Plessis on the final ball of the second over for two runs. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel scored seven runs each as both fell to terrific catches by Jitesh Sharma off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. After the fall of Axarโ€™s wicket, DC needed 106 runs from 68 balls.ย 

Tristan Stubbs came out to join Rahul and the pair added an unbeaten 111 runs from just 55 balls. The turning point of the game was when Josh Hazlewood was smashed for 22 runs by KL Rahul just as there was a slight drizzle which began to fall. At that stage, DC were behind in the DLS method.ย 

After hitting the first two balls for two fours, KL Rahul then took two runs on the third ball to make it ten from three balls. In the fourth ball there was yet another four followed by two more runs. The final ball of the over saw Rahul hit Hazlewood for a huge six to put his team ahead on the DLS method. Stubbs was not out on 38 runs from 23 balls with four boundaries and a six.ย
