Indian batter KL Rahul celebrated his 33rd birthday on Friday. Delhi Capitals (DC) posted a short video where the entire team could be seen cheering Rahul as he walked in. The veteran wicketkeeper and batter then got along team physio Patrick Farhart to cut the cake. Once the cake cutting was done, DC mentor Kevin Pietersen swung into action.

The former England skipper was the first to smash the cake into KL Rahul’s face as others followed suit. Kuldeep Yadav and skipper Axar Patel could be seen enjoying the ‘cake smash’ moment as the entire team environment. Delhi Capitals are set to take on Gujarat Titans in a key match on Saturday afternoon.

In the last game, DC had beaten Rajasthan Royals in the super over after the match had ended in a tie. Currently, Delhi are leading the table with 10 points from six matches. Gujarat Titans are third in the table with eight points from six matches. If the Titans win the game, they will become the new table toppers since they have better run-rate.

Axar Patel returns to Ahmedabad as Delhi Capitals’ skipper

The game in Ahmedabad will see Axar Patel head back to his home turf as the captain of the Delhi Capitals side. The 31-year-old is a local player having played for Gujarat in India’s domestic cricket all his life. Since taking over as the captain, Axar Patel has led the side well and has brought in a sense of calm in the dressing room.

Speaking at the end of game post the win over RR, Patel said, “You take on the responsibility when you know you will have fun with it. I was doing it for my state team, so I knew what to do and what not to do. So when you get an opportunity to lead a side the way you want to and you can play the game the way you want to, why not?"

The 31-year-old also added, “I am having a lot of fun on the field and off the field. I am doing what I think is right. I am not following a template. I back myself. I am not too experienced [as a captain] but it's not like I am turning to other people for help. Of course, I listen to everyone, but I back myself for the decisions I am making.”
