Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals played out an exciting encounter in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2024). The Knight Riders won the game by 2 wickets with one ball to spare to go third in the table. Nicholas Pooran fell to a terrific effort as Jason Holder and Rovman Powell put in a terrific combined effort.

The incident happened on the 4th ball of the ninth over of the innings. Keshav Maharaj bowled an enticing delivery to the West Indian batter. Pooran’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw the ball and went for a huge shot down the ground.

Barbados Royals skipper Rovman Powell was running backwards with his eyes on the ball. Powell, sensing that he was about to hit the ropes, took the catch and palmed the ball back to Jason Holder. As soon as the catch was taken the two senior members of the West Indian side began to celebrate a huge wicket.

Trinbago Knight Riders hold their nerves to win close game

Kieron Pollard won the toss and asked Barbados Royals to bat first. Akeal Hossein struck twice in the first over of the game to dismiss Rahkeem Cornwall and Alick Athanaze for ducks. Quinton De Kock and Rivaldo Clarke then added 54 runs for the third wicket in 35 balls.

That stand was broken when Waqar Salamkheil first got rid of De Kock for 39 and Clarke for 18. Sunil Narine then got the wicket of Holder for a duck to reduce the Royals to 71/5. Skipper Rovman Powell scored an unbeaten 59 off 38 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes while David Miller and Keshav Maharaj scored 19 and 14 each.

Needing 157 to win, the Knight Riders lost Sunil Narine early for a first ball duck to Maheesh Theekshana. The Sri Lankan then dismissed Jason Roy for 9 before Shaqkere Parris and Pooran added 51 runs for the 3rd wicket. Theekshana dismissed Parris for 35 and then Obed McCoy got the wickets of Keacy Carty for 32 and Andries Gous for 1.

Skipper Kieron Pollard was dismissed by Naveen Ul Haq for 3 but Akeal Hossein’s 20  and Terrence Hinds with 14 not out sealed the win. With a six off Jason Holder by Terrence Hinds, the Knight Riders took a close win in the CPL 2024 tournament.
