Pakistan cricket star Imad Wasim endured a frustrating day in the field on the opening night of the Caribbean Premier League 2024. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots defeated Antigua and Barbuda Falcons by one wicket in a pulsating encounter.

During the 2nd ball of the 15th over bowled by Falcons skipper Chris Green, Dominic Drakes went for a big shot. The batter didn’t time the ball well and there was a chance for the catch to be completed. Imad Wasim settled under the ball but dropped the easiest catch of the night. Chris Green could be seen looking shocked after the incident.

Andre Fletcher the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots skipper won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Falcons scored 163/4 from their 20 overs with Jewel Andrew scoring 50 and Fakhar Zaman scoring 43.

Chasing 164 for a win, Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher added 37 runs for the opening wicket. The stand was broken when Imad Wasim had Fletcher stumped by Sam Billings for 25. Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers then added 34 runs for the 2nd wicket in 20 balls before Shamar Springer got the wicket of Lewis for 29.

Shamar Springer struck once again as he dismissed Tristan Stubbs for 2. Kyle Mayers and Odean Smith added 34 runs for the 4th wicket before the Falcons came back into the contest.

Mohammad Amir dismissed Mayers for 39 while Springer dismissed Smith and Rossouw in successive balls. Ryan John, Dominic Drakes, and Ashmead Nedd fell in quick succession.

With 5 runs needed off 3 balls, the match went down to the wire. Primus bowled yet another wide to make it 4 of 3. Shamsi then took a single followed by Nortje scoring 2 runs to make it 1 off 1. The South African pacer took a quick single as the Patriots began the season in fine style.

Speaking at the end of the game, Chris Green said, “We were 10-15 short on a good surface. We had a great start with the bat in the powerplay but we scored just 14 runs off the next four overs, really proud of the way we fought in the backend. Here we had to use the dimensions and the breeze.”
