On Thursday, October 31, veteran Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians will begin his 15th season with the team after being retain for INR 16.30 crore. Notably, following the 2024 season, there were a lot of rumors that Sharma was leaving Mumbai due to a disagreement with the management. Sharma, who guided Mumbai to each of their five IPL championships, was abruptly fired when the team signed all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
In 163 IPL and Champions League T20 matches throughout his tenure, Rohit captained Mumbai, recording 91 victories, 4 draws, and 68 defeats. Mumbai advanced to five IPL finals under his direction, winning each one in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Mumbai Indians yet again. I have played so much cricket here. This is the place where I started my cricket career. So, this is a very, very special city and I’m happy to be here. “And obviously, when you play for such a long time, you create so many memories with the team. We haven’t had the best of seasons in the last two or three years. We are determined to change that. We will be looking to each other’s help and hopefully we can turn it around,” Rohit Sharma added.
Mumbai Indians has kept core team for IPL 2025
Tilak Varma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya were the other players kept by the team. The Mumbai Indians have a rich history of winning games in unexpected ways, according to Rohit, who also discussed the team's retention plan. Everyone who dons the shirt should try to achieve this. For this is the crew that never relents.
“It is a tough one when you come into an auction and you start retaining players. And with Mumbai Indians, we’ve always tried retaining the core group. Moving forward, I think we can have a good auction and create a good group of players who can be match winners for us.”
