While speculation about Mumbai Indians' captaincy brewed ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline, MI ultimately decided to stand by Pandya for another season. Despite a challenging IPL 2024 season, where the team finished at the bottom of the table, Pandya will continue as MI’s captain.

Alongside him, MI retained key players including Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Verma, solidifying their core roster for a renewed shot at the IPL 2025 title. Pandya’s retention comes with a contract of INR 16.35 crore.
