Team India’s poor day in the field continued with a few missed catches that proved to be costly. The lapses happened in the game against Bangladesh during India’s opening match of Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Hardik Pandya dropped Towhid Hridoy's easy catch on the fifth ball of the 20th over.

Kuldeep Yadav beat the batter in the flight and Hridoy mistimed the shot and hit it straight to Pandya. The 31-year-old got both hands to the ball but dropped the catch. At that stage, Bangladesh were 79/5 and had India taken that catch, they would have been in complete control.

The batter made India pay for their grave mistake as he notched up his eighth ODI fifty with a boundary off Jadeja. Earlier in the day, skipper Rohit Sharma had put down an easy chance off Axar Patel. Had Rohit taken the catch, Axar Patel would have completed his first hat trick in ODI cricket.

Bangladesh surge back into the game after early hiccups

Indian bowlers caused havoc as they reduced Bangladesh to 35/5 at one stage in the ninth over of the game. Mohammed Shami struck first in the final ball of the opening over of the match to remove Soumya Sarkar for zero. Skipper Najmul Shanto then offered a simple catch to Kohli as he was dismissed by Harshit Rana for a duck.

Shami struck for a second time when he had Mehidy Hasan Miraz playing away from his body. Shubman Gill completed a fine catch as Miraz had to walk back to the hut for five runs from ten balls. The early introduction of Axar Patel saw an immediate impact being created.

The 31-year-old first got the wicket of Tanzid Hasan caught by KL Rahul for 25. The same combination struck against to remove veteran star Mushfiqur Rahim for a golden duck. Jaker Ali joined Hridoy as the pair began with caution before starting to score runs with more ease. Apart from the two dropped chances, KL Rahul also missed a stumping to compound more misery on the field for India.
