One can’t detach the name of Rishabh Pant from ‘Gabba’, one of the iconic cricket venues in Australia. The same venue was known as Australia’s fortress for 32 years before Pant played a pivotal role when the ‘fortress Gabba’ was breached on January 19, 2021.

Recalling the memorable ‘fourth Test’ of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21, the veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane was leading the second-string playing XI against the power-packed Aussies. The series was levelled with the scoreline of 1-1 and the Aussies were already dominating in the fourth and last Test at the Gabba.

Aussie skipper Tim Paine had won the toss and asked his batters to take the charge; Marnus Labuschagne’s century (108 runs) helped his side to post a total of 369 runs in the first innings. In reply, India fell 33 runs short of Australia’s total, getting bundled out at the score of 336 runs in their first innings.

Furthermore, in the second innings, Tim Paine’s men managed to score 294 runs and posted a target of 328 runs for India owing to their first-innings lead of 33 runs.

Indians were seen struggling during the chase on the last day of the game following Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara’s fall after individual knocks of 91 and 56 runs, respectively.

But then came Rishabh Pant, with grit and determination, playing an unbeaten and match-winning knock of 89 runs to help India win by 3 wickets to end the Aussie dominance at Gabba
