The ongoing One Day Cup 2024 was in a solid confusion during the Somerset and Leicestershire match when Lewis Goldsworthy, Somerset's batter, hit the ball in the air over the square leg area and went inside Leicestershire's kit near their dugout. It was a struggle for the support staff and the players to get the ball. Even Ajinkya Rahane, who was standing near the boundary, helped search the ball.
Overall, it was a fun moment for the players and support staff, as such incidents are rare in the cricket field. The ball was recovered from one of the green kits, and then Rahane passed the ball to the on-field umpires. The Somerset all-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy scored an unbeaten 115 off 86 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Apart from him, keeper-batter James Rew scored 71 off 57 balls, hitting 10 fours.

Moreover, both the batters put up a 131-run stand. Somerset went on to score 334 for five wickets which was a pretty huge target for the opponent. Leicestershire couldn't chase the score and lost the game by 24 runs. Goldsworthy was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance in the first innings.
The batters could have done with some batting time out in the middle: Sunil Gavaskar
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to take a rest and not play the Duleep Trophy 2024 before the Bangladesh series, former India batter Sunil Gavaskar has objected to this decision. As per the former player, the batters shouldn't have rested as they must be in practice before playing the Test series against Bangladesh.
“While it’s understandable that somebody like Jasprit Bumrah with his delicate back needs to be handled with care, the batters could have done with some batting time out in the middle. Once a player hits the mid-thirties in any sport, then regular competition will help him maintain the high standards he has set. When there’s a longish gap then the muscle memory weakens somewhat and to get back to the high standards from earlier is not easy,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
