The fifth match of the International League T20 (ILT20) 2025 was played between the Gulf Giants and Desert Vipers at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on January 14. The Vipers claimed a convincing win as they defeated the Giants by 6 wickets with 2.2 overs to spare.

Meanwhile, during the second innings of the game, Vipers’ batter and Pakistani star Azam Khan came in as an impact player and started his knock with a magnificent flick shot. However, his innings didn’t last long as he threw away his wicket while trying to play a big shot, eventually top-edging it. A fan in the stands was caught on camera holding his head in frustration after Azam’s dismissal.

Talking about the match, Vipers won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision worked for them as the bowlers were continuously getting wickets, not letting the opponents’ batters settle in the middle. The Giants lost their first three wickets inside the powerplay.

No other player except the opener and skipper James Vince was able to contribute anything to the scoreboard for the Giants. Vince was a one-man show, scoring 76 runs, which included five fours and two sixes. He helped the team achieve a fighting total of 119 runs in 20 overs. Lockie Ferguson was the star bowler for the Vipers, claiming three wickets and conceding only 22 runs in four overs.

Defending the target, Mark Adair shocked the Vipers by taking two wickets in a single over for just seven runs. However, Alex Hales and Sam Curran stood firm at the crease and didn’t throw away their wickets, knowing the target was very small. After the score read 66/4, Sherfane Rutherford came to bat and completely turned the game in the Vipers’ favour, scoring a quick 40 off just 18 balls, helping the team claim their second consecutive win of the season.
