Star England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes stunned everyone with his sensational catch behind the wickets to dismiss Yorkshire’s James Tattersall in the 28th game of the County Championship Division One. The moment came on the first day of the Surrey vs Yorkshire clash at the Kennington Oval in London.

The moment came on the sixth and last ball of the 33rd over of the innings when Jordan Clark bowled a short-pitched delivery to Tattersall, which the latter failed to judge. Eventually, the ball took the leading edge and went high in the air behind the wickets. Foakes ran to his left to execute a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Tattersall.

Surrey in a commanding position at the end of day 1

Speaking of the game's action between Surrey and Yorkshire on day 1 of the game, the hosts’ skipper, Rory Burns, won the toss and asked Yorkshire to bat first. Batting first, the visitors were bundled out to the score of just 255 runs in the first innings. Skipper Jonny Bairstow and opener Adam Lyth played the crucial half-century knocks of 89 and 55 runs to help their side go past the total of 200+ runs. Besides these two, lower-order batter Jordan Thompson also contributed with 30 runs off 40 balls, with five fours.

Jordan Clark and Tom Lawes scalped 3 wickets each for Surrey in the first innings, alongside 2 wickets picked by Dan Lawrence. Nathan Smith and Matthew Fisher also claimed a wicket each for their side in the first innings.

In response to Yorkshire’s 255, Surrey had scored 46 runs without any loss, with openers Dom Sibley and Rory Burns there in the middle, unbeaten at the individual scores of 10 and 27 runs.
