The five-time champions, and one of the in-form teams in the ongoing IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians, are going through a big phase of changes in their squad ahead of the tournament’s resumption. Facing the first blow, they will miss the services of star England batting all-rounder Will Jacks in the remainder of the tournament, owing to his national commitments.
However, Jacks is in India to be a part of MI’s plans for their remaining two league matches, but his selection in the England squad for West Indies ODIs will make him unavailable for MI in the playoffs.
A report in ESPNcricinfo understands that, “Bairstow is in line to replace him for the knockout stages, subject to a No-Object Certificate.”
Notably, Bairstow was unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction last year in November and hasn’t been a part of England’s squad across all formats. He is currently in action for Yorkshire in the County Championship. He might miss a championship game, followed by two appearances in the T20 Blast, if MI completes the process of signing him for IPL 2025’s remaining part.
Speaking of Jonny Bairstow’s IPL career, he has played 50 matches and has impressed with his batting performances. The England veteran has scored 1589 runs in 50 innings, with a brilliant batting average of 34.54, hitting two centuries and nine half-centuries.
MI to miss Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch due to WTC final
Besides the absence of Will Jacks, the Mumbai Indians will also miss the services of star South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton and all-rounder Corbin Bosch. The news came out after both the Proteas stars were selected in the 15-member national squad for the upcoming World Test Championship Final against Australia.
The MI management will also be eyeing to find the perfect like-to-like replacements for Rickelton and Bosch in the remaining part of the tournament. The Hardik Pandya-led team is currently placed in the fourth spot on the tournament standings, with seven wins and five defeats in their 12 games. They are enjoying a brilliant form in their last five games, with four consecutive wins and only one defeat.
