Mumbai Indians (MI) wicketkeeper and batter Ryan Rickelton silenced his critics with his second fifty of the IPL 2025 tournament. The left-handed batter was severe on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowlers in the first six overs of the game. After the end of the powerplay overs, the home team were scoring at 11 runs per over. Just when it seemed like Rickelton was getting set for a century, Digvesh Rathi ended his innings.

On the fourth ball of the ninth over, Rathi deceived the batter with his flight. Rickelton shaped to hit over the top but couldn’t time the ball well. Ravi Bishnoi, who was fielding inside the circle, took an easy catch. MI’s opener was out after scoring 58 off just 32 balls with the help of six crisp boundaries and four huge sixes. Once the batter was out, Rathi came up with his now-famous ‘notebook’ celebration.

It is to be noted that Rickelton’s previous fifty was in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders at home. It was a key wicket for the Lucknow Super Giants’ side, who saw their bowlers being taken to the cleaners by the MI batters. Rishabh Pant’s decision to bowl first seemed to have backfired as Rickelton and Will Jacks played exquisite shots to all parts of the ground.

Mumbai Indians steal early march with the bat

Rohit Sharma, who had scored 76 not out and 70 in the last two games, was out after scoring just 12 runs. The 37-year-old began his innings with two successive sixes off Mayank Yadav to send the home crowd in raptures. This made Rohit just the third batter after Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal to achieve this feat.

Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav, playing his first game since November, got the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the third over of the game. The 22-year-old, though, seemed rusty as he was struggling to find his rhythm with the ball. In his first three overs, Mayank was hit for 35 runs.

If the Mumbai Indians win this game with a decent margin, they will move to the second spot in the table temporarily. MI could potentially have 12 points from 10 games and have a better run rate than Delhi Capitals. Axar Patel and his side will host Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the second encounter of the weekend fixtures on Sunday evening.
