Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Dewald Brevis continued his amazing start to life at his new IPL side with a terrific catch. Brevis who had plucked a stunning catch in the previous game pulled off yet another stunner in the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the fifth ball of the 10th over, Pathirana bowled a delivery that was short of the length. Bethell tried to play a pull shot but failed to time the ball well. Dewald Brevis made fair ground from the backward square region and put in a dive to complete the catch. Even MS Dhoni seemed impressed with the catch as Bethell was out for 55 runs.
It was a much-needed wicket for CSK who had seen RCB opening batters get off to flying start. The first six overs had seen the home team score 71 runs from six overs after RCB were put into bat first after MS Dhoni won the toss. This was Bethell’s first IPL fifty in just his second game.
Chennai Super Kings strike crucial blows
Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell took the attack to the CSK bowlers as the pair went after Khaleel Ahmed in the first few overs of the game. Bethell was dropped in the fifth over as matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja’s collision ended up costing CSK a wicket. Once the chance went down neither batters looked back and started to attack CSK’s bowlers.
Bethell was the first batter to reach his fifty with a four off Jadeja in the second ball of the ninth over. Virat Kohli also reached his fifty with a boundary off Jadeja to give the home fans lot to cheer about. By the end of 11 overs, RCB had reached 114 runs for the loss of one wicket.
Sam Curran then got the big wicket of Kohli in the fifth ball of the 12th over. The English all-rounder bowled a short ball that Kohli tried to upper-cut but only managed to find Khaleel Ahmed who took a fine catch. The fast bowler was elated after taking the catch and giving CSK huge breakthrough.
