Royal challengers Bengaluru got off to a terrific start in their IPL 2025 game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Jacob Bethell show had scored just 12 runs on his IPL debut against Delhi Capitals, led the charge with the bat with an impressive assault in the powerplay overs. Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana were involved in a nasty collision that saw Bethell’s catch being spilled.
The incident occurred in the fifth ball of the fourth over of the game. Anshul Kamboj bowled a back of the length ball that Bethell tried to hit over the top. The batter got a thick edge off his bat as the ball flew towards the backward point region. Both Jadeja and Pathirana came running in and that’s when the collision happened.
In the end, the batter survived as the catch was spilled to give Bethell to continue his innings. The Sri Lankan pacer was seen on the floor seemingly in pain after the collision. It was a huge moment in the game as RCB had gotten off to a flier with the bat. Pathirana made his way off the field which will be huge cause of concern for the CSK fans. By the end of six overs, RCB had scored 71 for no loss to put pressure on CSK’s bowlers.
RCB openers punish Chennai’s bowling unit
MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with the same team. RCB had one change as Josh Hazlewood missed out and Lungi Ngidi came in for the Australian seamer. Jacob Bethell got things going with three successive fours off Khaleel Ahmed’s bowling as 13 runs came from the first over.
Anshul Kamboj pulled back things for CSK with his opening over which went for just three runs. Bethell and Kohli then unleashed more carnage when the duo smashed Khaleel for three sixes in the bowler’s second over. The introduction of Noor Ahmad in the fifth ball saw 14 runs being score as Bethell hit the Afghan spinner for two fours and a six.
The final over of the powerplay bowled by Kamboj saw RCB batters score 11 runs from the six balls to assert their dominance. Kohli, began the over with a massive six and followed it up with a four before taking a single in the final ball of the over. The chance dropped could come to haunt the CSK team on what looks a great track for batting.
