South African batter Dewald Brevis scored the second-fastest fifty for Chennai Super Kings in IPL history. The right-handed batter took just 19 balls to reach the mark in the game against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. For the record, Suresh Raina holds the record for the fastest fifty by a CSK batter, which came off 16 balls in 2014 versus Punjab Kings.

Mohammed Siraj was called on to bowl the 19th over and Brevis hit the pacer for two successive sixes to begin the over. The first six went straight down the ground, while the second six was deposited over the long-on region. The third ball of the over saw Brevis hit the ball over the point region and follow it up with a single. Brevis, signed on as amid-season replacement, showed IPL fans once again why he is considered a dangerous batter.

The penultimate over of the innings went for 20 runs as CSK were on course for their highest score of the season. Prasidh Krishna gave away just nine runs from the final over, which included a massive six by Brevis. The bowler got the wicket of Brevis in the final caught by Jos Buttler. The 22-year-old was out after scoring 57 off just 23 balls with five huge sixes and four boundaries.

Gujarat Titans face huge run chase to secure top two spot

Batting first, Devon Conway and Ayush Mhatre added 44 runs for the opening wicket in just 22 balls. Mhatre was out against the run of play after scoring 34 runs with a strike rate of 200. Urvil Patel then joined Conway as the pair continued to punish the Titans bowlers with yet another brisk partnership.

When Devon Conway fell in the 14th over after scoring 52, CSK had already reached 156 on the board. Ravindra Jadeja came out to join Brevis and the pair added 74 runs for the fifth wicket in just 39 balls.

Ravindra Jadeja played the perfect foil to Brevis, who was batting aggressively at the other end. The 36-year-old was not out on 21 off 18 balls with one four and one six. Gujarat Titans need 231 runs to win the game and claim the top spot in the points table.
