Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) batting sensation, Ayush Mhatre, continued his fine form with the bat in the game against Gujarat Titans (GT). The 17-year-old completely destroyed GT’s pacer Arshad Khan in the second over of the game. Arshad Khan was smashed for 28 runs as CSK got off to their best start of the season.

Mohammed Siraj’s first over of the game had yielded just six runs with one boundary from Mhatre’s blade. After taking two runs in the first ball of Khan’s over, the young batter from Mumbai decided to step on the gas. Arshad Khan was smashed over the long-on region for the first six of the game.

On the next ball, Arshad bowled a fullish delivery that the batter deposited into the mid-on region for yet another six. The first three balls of the over were hit for 14 runs as Mhatre seemed to be in a dangerous mood. The next two balls saw two more fours being hit as 22 runs came from the first five balls of the over. On the final ball of the over, Mhatre played a hook shot for six to score 28 runs and put GT bowlers under pressure.

CSK looking to end their woeful season on a high

Earlier in the day, MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first. Deepak Hooda replaced veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the XI. Gujarat Titans decided to include Gerald Coetzee in place of his South African teammate Kagiso Rabada. MS Dhoni didn’t reveal his plans about his future during the toss as a massive turnout came in support of CSK.

Even if CSK happen to win the game, they will still stay bottom of the table to end their most dreadful season in IPL history. After 13 matches, CSK has managed to win just three games and has the worst net run rate in the current season. CSK’s wins this season have come against the Mumbai Indians, the Lucknow Super Giants, and the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Shubman Gill, recently named the Test captain ahead of India’s tour of England, was felicitated by the local authorities. Gill, speaking at the toss time to former India coach Ravi Shastri, said that he was excited after being named the new Test skipper. Gill also mentioned that he was looking forward to the challenge of playing in England.
