Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Deepak Chahar gave the five-time champions great start with the bat in the IPL 2025 game versus Delhi Capitals (DC). The 32-year-old got the wicket of Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk with the first ball of DC’s innings. Chahar bowled a inviting ball to the batter and McGurk took the bait. Will Jacks who was fielding in the covers took an easy catch to give MI a great star to the innings.Β

Tilak Varma’s half-century saw Mumbai Indians post a massive total of 205 on the board for the loss of five wickets. Axar Patel had won the toss and put MI into bat as Faf du Plessis missed the game due to injury. Mumbai on the other hand went in unchanged from their last game against Bengaluru.Β 

Ryan Rickelton gave MI a fantastic start with the bat scoring 41 off just 25 runs while Suryakumar Yadav scored 40. The best batter for MI was Tilak Varma who scored 59 off just 33 balls with six boundaries and three sixes. Naman Dhir then scored 38 runs from 17 balls to push MI past the 200 mark.Β 

Karun Nair fifty drives Delhi Capitals to brisk start

After the early loss of Jake Fraser-McGurk, veteran batter Karun Nair was sent into bat at number three. Deepak Chahar welcomed him with a searing yorker as the MI bowlers were breathing fire. By the end of six overs, DC has scored 72 runs for the loss of one wicket.Β 

Nair welcomed Trent Boult with two successive fours, as the Kiwi pacer lost his control and bowled five wides. Nair ended the over with yet another four as the home team raced to 24 for one after the second over. Jasprit Bumrah was called into bowl the fourth over and the pacer was hit for 11 runs.Β 

In the final over of the powerplay, Bumrah went for 18 runs as Nair hit two sixes a four. The veteran batter reached his fifty in the final ball of the over with two runs to make an amazing comeback to IPL cricket. Nair got to his fifty off just 22 balls as Delhi needed 134 runs to win from 14 overs.Β
