Match number 17 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season was a rare afternoon game on Saturday. Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bat on what was a cloudy day. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad announced that the New Zealand batter was back in the team to open the batting. This elicited a huge cheer from the crowd, as the left-handed batter has a huge fan following at the Chepauk.

Delhi Capitals made one change to their side as Faf du Plessis missed out as he wasn’t fit for the game. Former CSK batter Sameer Rizvi came in to replace du Plessis, who had played 92 games for the five-time IPL winners. Chennai made two changes to the team as well. Conway came in for Jamie Overton, while Mukesh Chaudhary came in for Rahul Tripathi.

CSK had come into the game on the back of their loss to Rajasthan Royals last Sunday. Ruturaj Gaikwad and his men had also lost at home to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home after starting the season with a win over Mumbai. On the other hand, DC came into the contest having won both their games to be placed at the top of the table with Punjab.

Delhi Capitals look to end wretched run in Chepauk

The last time DC won a game in Chennai was in 2010; Axar Patel and his side know that CSK are also on a two-match losing run. If the Capitals win the game on Saturday, they will momentarily go to the top of the table. Punjab and Rajasthan are set to play the second game of the day at the Mullanpur Stadium.

Speaking at the toss, DC skipper Axar Patel said, “We are going to bat first. It feels like there'll be help for the bowlers. It's an afternoon game and we expect it to get slower in the second inning. When you are winning, the atmosphere in the dressing room will obviously be good. In our team, we have a few players who have captained other franchises and their inputs help me a lot.”

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad said, “We were looking to bat first as well. Good wicket, looks a bit dry. It's a bit cloudy; I don't think it'll change too much. You always want momentum in T20 cricket; we haven't got it in the last two games. The last game was an improved performance in terms of batting and bowling. The fielding wasn't up to the mark. Everyone is eager to have a massive improvement.”
