Bangladesh wicketkeeper and batter Litton Kumar Das scored a memorable century on Sunday. The knock helped Bangladesh edge closer to the Pakistani total before falling short by a mere 12 runs.

When he came out to bat, Bangladesh had lost half their side for 26. After the fall of Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 165 runs for the 7th wicket. Despite losing Miraz for 78 before tea, Das kept going. The wicketkeeper batter added 69 runs for the 9th wicket with Hasan Mahmud.

Litton Das: The crisis man for Bangladesh

Playing a knock under pressure is nothing new for Litton Das. During the Test versus Pakistan at home in 2021, the right-handed batter scored 114 from 233 balls with 11 fours and a six. In the 2nd innings, he scored 59 runs from 89 balls but couldn’t save Bangladesh from losing the game.

The next best instance was when Bangladesh won a Test against New Zealand for the first time away from home. In the first innings, Litton Das scored 86 off 177 to help his side post 458 and take a lead of 130 runs. The kiwis were all out for 169 as the visitors won the game by 8 wickets.

In the very next Test at Christchurch, the home team came back with a bang and scored an imposing 521 on the board. Bangladesh were all out for 126 and were asked to follow on. Litton Das scored a memorable 102 off 114 balls with the next highest being 37 as the visitors were all out for 278 to lose the game.

In the same year, during the Mirpur test where the ball was turning square, Litton Das played a knock that nearly turned the game around. The Bangladeshi star scored 73 off 98 balls with 7 fours but India won the game by 3 wickets.

In the ongoing series against Pakistan, Litton Das played a crucial knock in the first innings of the 1st Test. His 56 helped Mushfiqur Rahim score a memorable 191 as the Bangladeshis posted a massive total on the board and won the game by 10 wickets.
