WATCH: Brandon King smashes Reece Topley for huge 101-meter six

West Indian opening batter Brandon King shrugged off his bad form with the bat to smash Reece Topley for a 101-meter six during the WI vs ENG Super-8 match.

The Super-8 stages of the T20 World Cup 2024 began with South Africa holding onto a win against United States of America. The second game of the day saw Co-hosts West Indies take ion defending champions England in their opening encounter of the Super-8 stages. 

Brandon King the West Indian opener decided to open up his shoulders and shrug off his bad form. The third ball of the third over by Reece Topley had the English players looking skyward. 

Reece Topley bowled a length ball on the pads of the batter and Brandon King pulled off a wristy flick. The ball traveled high into the night sky and hit the roof of the stadium for a huge six. That hit was measured at 101 meters which is one of the biggest sixes of this campaign. 

West Indian batters get off to quick start once again 

England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mark Wood came in for Chris Jordan as the only change for the defending champions. Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd were back in the playing XI for the home team after missing the Afghanistan game. 

Brandon King and Johnson Charles began well as they went after the English bowlers to set the tone of the game. The 29-year-old had to walk off the field after pulling his groin while attempting yet another powerful hit. Brandon King was batting well on 23 off 13 balls with 3 fours and that huge six off Reece Topley. 

Nicholas Pooran continued from where he left off against Afghanistan as her scored 38 off 32 balls. Jofra Archer dismissed the West Indian batter just when he was looking dangerous caught by Jos Buttler. 

Johnson Charles scored 38 runs from 34 balls with four boundaries and a six as he fell to Moeen Ali. Skipper Rovman Powell hit five sixes as he went after Liam Livingstone hitting him for 20 runs in a single over. 

The English star had the last laugh as Powell tried to hit yet another ball out of the park only to be caught by Mark Wood. It was the turn of Adil Rashid to strike a big blow when he had Andre Russell caught by Phil Salt for 1. At the time of writing, West Indies were placed at 143/3 from 17 overs with Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd in the middle.
