West Indies took on Afghanistan in the final game of the T20 World Cup league stages. Both sides came into the game having won their three earlier games in the tournament and having qualified for the Super-8 stages.

Afghanistan created an unwanted history during the 4th over of the West Indian batting. All-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai conceded 36 runs from a single over to bowl the joint - costliest over in the history of T20 World Cups.

It was Rashid Khan who won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with the same side. West Indies made two changes to their team with Roston Chase rested for Obed McCoy while Shai Hope came in for Sherfane Rutherford.

At the end of the 3rd over, West Indies were going really well having scored 37 runs for the loss of opener Brandon King. Nicholas Pooran welcomed Azmatullah Omarzai with a luck six to start the 4th over in style.

The next ball the Afghan bowler had over-stepped the line for a no-ball and Pooran had whacked it for a four. 11 runs had come off one single legal delivery, the free-hit saw Omarzai bowl a wild delivery down the leg-side which went for 5 wides.

Having conceded 16 runs off 1 ball and still the free-hit ball to be bowled, Omazai bowled a dot ball. The third ball of the over saw four more runs being scored when Nicholas Pooran, hit the ball past the wicketkeeper.

Azmatullah Omarzai and his day went from bad to worse as it soon became 24 runs from 4 balls. Nicholas Pooran hit the bowler over the point boundary for yet another four to continue the carnage.

If the Afghanistan team thought that was the end to their woes, they were sadly mistaken. The 5th ball of the over went for a huge six to make it 30 runs from 5 balls. The final ball of the over witnessed Pooran smash the bowler over the long-off region for yet another six.

That onslaught meant that 36 runs were conceded from a single over to make it the joint- costliest over in the T20 World Cup. From 37/1 in 3 overs the home side had flown to 73/1 in 4 overs as the 50 partnership came up in just 14 balls.
