Mumbai’s Atharava Ankolekar left everyone stunned with his amazing fielding heroics in the just-concluded first semi-final of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. The stunning fielding moment of Ankolekar took place in the third over of the first innings.

It was on the fifth ball of the third over when Baroda opener Abhimanyusingh Rajput played Mohit Avasthi into the air for a lofted shot. Initially, everyone including the commentators had thought the ball was going all the way for a six. But in an unexpected shock for everyone, Atharva happened to find the ball to complete a decisive and impressive catch.

Speaking of the action of the first semi-final between Baroda and Mumbai, played at the Alur Cricket Ground in Bengaluru, Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and asked Baroda to bat first. Batting first, Krunal Pandya’s men posted a score of 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Shashwat Rawat scored 33 runs followed by 30 and 36-run knocks played by skipper Krunal and middle-order batter Shivalik Sharma. Mumbai’s Suryansh Shedge scalped 2 wickets at just 11 runs in two overs, alongside all other bowlers scalping one wicket each. 

While chasing the target, the veteran Mumbai batter and former skipper, Ajinkya Rahane smashed a fiery knock of 96 runs off just 56 balls, hitting 11 fours and five sixes. He also stitched a match-winning partnership of 88 runs with skipper Shreyas Iyer, who scored 46 runs off 30 balls, with 4 fours and three sixes. Eventually, Mumbai successfully chased down the target in just 17.2 overs, scoring 164 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and winning the game by 6 wickets.

Suryansh Shedge won the game with a six to help his side become the first team to enter the final of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Now in the tournament’s summit clash, Mumbai will take on the winner of the second semi-final between Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
