Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Zahid has made a huge statement on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The 48-year-old has called Rohit Sharma better than Virat Kohli and even compared him to former Pakistan cricket captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Mohammad Zahid who was a guest on Basit Ali’s YouTube channel said, “Nobody can deny Virat Kohli. However, I'd rate Rohit Sharma higher than Kohli. Rohit is the best batsman in the world at present. He is very courageous against fast bowlers. He is a gifted player. He picks the length very quickly, like how Inzamam-ul-Haq used to do."

Rohit Sharma has been in bright form with the bat having scored 58 and 64 in the first two ODI matches versus Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old will walk into the field on Wednesday to take on the home team in the final ODI match with his team 1-0 down in the series.

Mohammad Zahid rates his pick for the top 3 batters in the current era

During his chat with Basit Ali, the former Pakistani pacer was asked to name the top three batters from the current era. Yet again Mohammad Zahid left out Virat Kohli’s name and named Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and Joe Root.

Mohammad Zahid said, “If you ask me skill-wise, it is Babar Azam. Babar has the best technique among all batters. However, when we talk  about performances and the knowledge of batting, Joe Root and Steve Smith are on another level. They don't have the kind of ability that Babar has, but they are more clever when it comes to game assessment. I would rank Steve Smith at one, Joe Root at second, and then Babar Azam."

Rohit Sharma has been taking batting to new heights with his attacking play in the last few months. It was under Rohit Sharma that India won their first ICC title when they brought home the T20 World Cup title. The 37-year-old is also the only many to score three double centuries in ODI cricket.

Virat Kohli on the other hand has been struggling for form in the current ODI series against Sri Lanka. Legions of Indian fans will hope that the two stalwarts can combine once more to help India win the game and level the series.
