Medium-pace bowler Rasikh Salam Dar was brought into bowl early by RCB skipper Rajat Patidar. After being hit for a four, the bowler dropped it short and Rahane used his fast hands to pull the ball deep into the deep square leg fence for a six. This was the first maximum of the season and the fans found their voice as the skipper was on the charge.
On the fifth ball of the same over, Rahane hit the second six off the over, which went 92 meters. 16 runs were scored in the fourth over as KKR found their groove with the bat after a slow start to the game. Earlier in the day, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and bowled first. At the end of the first powerplay, KKR were placed at 60 for the loss of one wicket.

Josh Hazlewood got the first wicket of the game when he had Quinton De Kock caught behind by Jitesh Sharma for four runs. Just two balls earlier, the Aussie pacer had bowled a short delivery that De Kock tried to pull and was put down by Suyash Sharma. Only four runs were scored in the first over and Yash Dayal conceded just a single run from his opening over of the season.
At the end of the third over, KKR were placed at nine runs for the loss of one wicket. Sunil Narine got his first boundary of the season when he hit Hazlewood for a four in the fourth ball of the third over. Krunal Pandya was brought into bowl the fourth over of the innings and was welcomed by Narine with a huge six. The final two balls of the same over saw Rahane hit Pandya for two fours to take 15 runs off the over.
Ajinkya Rahane didn’t let the pressure ease as he took 20 runs from Yash Dayal’s second over. The first ball was hit for a four by Narine before the batter took a single to get his captain back on strike. The 36-year-old then hit a four, followed by a six to bring up the 50-run stand and followed it with a boundary to move to 38 runs from just 15 balls.
