Some of the biggest names in India hogged the limelight in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025’s opening ceremony. Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan shared the stage with batter Rinku Singh and Virat Kohli. The latter is set to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the 18th successive season.

Virat Kohli and Shah Rukh Khan could be seen dancing to a famous song from ‘Pathan’. King Khan, as he is fondly called by the fans, was seen in a jovial mood as he introduced both players. The 58-year-old also shook a leg with Rinku Singh, who is a key member of the KKR side. Shah Rukh also revealed that Rinku always dances to his songs after the team wins. 

Ajinkya Rahane and Rajat Patidar, the two captains, went to the stage and handed the IPL trophy. There was also a huge cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate the 18th season of the league. In the first ever match of the league, it was KKR and RCB who played each other at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, with Brendon McCullum scoring 158 not out. 

Big names grace the stage for IPL 2025 opening ceremony 

Famous Bollywood singer Shreya Ghosal came to the stage and sang the rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ that got the crowd going. Actress Disha Patani and singer Karan Aulja also set the mood as the fans got a healthy dose of Bollywood action before the two teams get ready for the battle on the field. 

After the cake-cutting ceremony, both teams and the fans in attendance stood up for the national anthem. Earlier, there were massive doubts that the game could be played as there were showers being predicted for the game. Luckily, the fans and the audience at home got to see clear skies and not a spot of rain in the air. 

KKR won the title last season under Shreyas Iyer after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on the other hand, are yet to win the league and will see Rajat Patidar lead the side for the first time. RCB have made some smart purchases during the IPL 2025 Auctions and the onus of leading the side with the bat will be on Virat Kohli.
