Rajasthan Royals (RR) batters failed to get off to a good start with the bat in their chase of 207 runs needed for a win. Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bat first, and saw his side reach 206 runs on the board. Young Vaibhav Suryavanshi began the innings with a four off Vaibhav Arora’s bowling. The youngster tried to go for a big shot once again but failed to time the ball well.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Ajinkya Rahane made good ground and took a stunning catch. The normally cool Rahane was seen with a huge smile on his face as he completed the catch. Suryavanshi was out for a duck in the last game against the Mumbai Indians after having scored a 35-ball ton against Gujarat.
Andre Russell scored 57 not out for KKR to help his side post a massive total on the board. The knock came off just 25 balls as Russell finally found his form with the bat. Angkrish Raghuvanshi was the next best batter for KKR with 44 while Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 35 runs.
KKR bowlers leave Rajasthan Royals’ batters in tatters
After the fall of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, it was the turn of debutant Kunal Singh Rathore to face the music. Rahane brought Moeen Ali into bowl the second over of the innings. The former England player struck when he induced the batter into playing a huge shot, only to be caught by Andre Russell for a duck.
Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal then gave the visitors some hope with a stand of 58 runs for the third wicket in 31 balls. Jaiswal was dismissed against the run of play for 34 runs, which came off 21 balls with five boundaries and a six. Jaiswal was dismissed by Moeen Ali as Rinku Singh took an easy catch.
Varun Chakravarthy then struck twice in three balls and reduced RR’s score to 71 for five in the eighth over. Dhruv Jurel and Wanindu Hasaranga were castled by a fired-up Chakravarthy as the visitors found themselves in a huge spot of bother. If KKR win this game, they will come back into contention for a place in the playoffs.
