Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finally saw their batters fire in the game against Delhi Capitals (DC). Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave KKR the perfect start with the bat adding 48 runs for the opening wicket in just three overs. Ajinkya Rahane then came out all guns blazing and hit a terrific shot for six that even left Mitchell Starc with a smile on his face.
Australian seamer Starc bowled a short ball that Rahane was quick to spot. The veteran Indian batter played a crunching pull shot as the ball sailed deep into the deep square leg region for a huge six. Just as the bowler was walking back, the cameras spotted Starc admiring the power and timing behind the shot that was played.
Rahane though wasn’t done as in the very next ball, KKR’s skipper played a fine flick shot through the mid-wicket region for a boundary. Mitchell Starc had conceded 14 runs from his third over and ended his first spell with figures of one wicket for 35 runs. Axar Patel seemed a worried captain as KKR batters raced to 79 for one after the end of six overs. It seemed that Patel’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss had backfired.
KKR continue to plunder runs despite losing regular wickets
IPL champions KKR got off to a great start scoring 33 runs in the first two overs as Dushmanta Chameera was hit for 25 runs in his opening over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz who hit Starc for two fours in the opening over of the game, hit his former teammate for two fours and a six in the third over of the game.
It was Starc who had the last laugh when he found the edge of Gurbaz’ bat and Porel took a fine catch. The on field umpires weren’t interested but persistent appeals from the home team meant that the decision was sent upstairs. Gurbaz had got a thick edge and the TV umpire reversed the decision in favor of the bowling side.
Vipraj Nigam then gave DC they wicket of Sunil Narine LBW for 27 runs which came off 16 balls with two fours and two sixes. Rahane was out LBW to Axar Patel as he played back to an arm ball that struck him on the pads, Rahane was out after scoring 26 runs which came off 14 balls with four boundaries and that huge six off Starc.
