Rahane, stunned former KKR pacer Mohammed Shami stunned with an exquisite shot in the fourth ball of the fifth over. Shami, bowled a length ball that Rahane was quick to spot and played a pick-up shot over the backward square leg region for a huge six. Fans who had come to watch the game were thrilled with the shot as Rahane seemed to be in the mood for a big score.
It was Pat Cummins who won the toss and he had no hesitation in putting KKR into bat. The home team just made one change as they brought in Moeen Ali to replace Australian pacer Spencer Johnson. On the other hand, SRH made two changes as Kamindu Mendis was making his IPL debut while Simarjeet Singh was brought back into the XI.
Sunrisers’ bowlers make early inroads with the ball
The move to bowl first paid rich dividends for SRH as Pat Cummins got the big wicket of Quinton De Kock for just one run. The former South African batter went for a pull shot but managed to find Zeeshan Ansari as the visitors claimed the first wicket of the game. Sunil Narine who had struck a huge six was out to Mohammed Shami caught by wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen for seven runs.
KKR opener was left stunned after losing his wicket as he felt it was a bump ball. Narine had a word with his captain before heading back to the hut without taking the DRS. It was the right call as the batter would have been given out as the bat had hit the ground after getting a clear edge off the ball.
Rahane was joined by Angkrish Raghuvanshi as the pair counter attacked with aggressive batting. The KKR skipper hit Cummins and Simarjeet Singh for sixes with his young partner also joining in the big hitting act.
