Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, are set to play their second game of the season on Wednesday. Ajinkya Rahane and his side will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. KKR began the season with a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.
Revsportz carried a report on Tuesday where Eden Gardens’ pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee replied to Ajinkya Rahane’s comments. KKR skipper speaking at the end of the game had said, “We would love to see some spin on this wicket, but again, no complaints”
Rahane also added, “We would love to see the pitch helping the spin bowlers but again, this wicket was under cover for the last one-and-a-half days. Both the spinners we have, the quality they have, they can bowl in any kind of wicket and I am sure they are confident as well.”

Eden Gardens’ pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee, during his chat with Revsportz, said, “As long as I’m here, Eden Gardens pitch will not change”. The veteran curator also questioned KKR’s spinners' inability to pick wickets. Varun Chakravarthy picked one wicket while Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora were the other wicket takers.
Speaking to Revsportz, Mr. Mukherjee said, “As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch. Ever since I have taken charge (as Eden curator), the pitches here have been like this. It was like this in the past. Things haven’t changed now, and it will not be altered in the future.”
Mr. Mukherjee, speaking about the lack of wickets for the spinners, said, “Their (RCB) spinners took four wickets between them. What did the KKR spinners do? Krunal Pandya got three wickets. Suyash Sharma turned the ball to castle Andre Russell.”
Rajasthan Royals, just like KKR, are coming on the back of a huge loss in the first game of their season. The Royals lost by 44 runs to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in what was a high-scoring game as SRH scored 286 runs. Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel scored fifties for the Royals, but the target was way beyond reach for Riyan Parag and his men.
