On Friday, January 24, at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai, India captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 28 (35) in the second innings against Jammu & Kashmir, failing to score a significant amount on his Ranji Trophy comeback after nine years. In contrast to the opening innings, Rohit started well, appearing at ease at the crease while attacking the bowlers.
In the first innings, the opening batter was bowled by Umar Nazir Mir. In the second innings, he rapidly advanced to 15 off just 8 balls by hitting him for a six and a few boundaries. He also played a beautiful lofted straight shot with his feet to send the ball beyond the boundary for another maximum.
He appeared poised for a big knock and also displayed his signature pull shot. Abid Mushtaq completed a fantastic one-handed catch when Rohit played a poor shot against Yudhvir Singh, with the ball flying towards mid-wicket, just when it appeared that he was getting back to his old form.

Mumbai's struggle continues in the match
On his Ranji Trophy return after nine years, Rohit was forced to return to the pavilion for 28 (35) after failing for the second time in a row. He was caught at cover after getting a leading edge while attempting to pull Umar Nazir Mir, which led to his earlier dismissal for 3 (19) in the first innings. After Rohit announced that he was available to play for Mumbai, his supporters and commentators eagerly awaited his Ranji comeback. They were let down, though, by the opening batter's poor performance.
Hardik Tamore was knocked for 1 in the very next over, while Yashasvi Jaiswal was also dismissed for 26 after Rohit was dismissed, leaving Mumbai reeling at 57/3 in 15.5 overs. Mumbai also lost wickets in fast succession in the second innings.
