Former English batter Michael Vaughan heaped praises on the 22-year-old Indian star Yashasvi Jaiswal on his magnificent performance in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. The opening batter was just brilliant throughout the series but failed in a few games as well. Vaughan also spoke about KL Rahul and how amazingly his series started, but he couldn't continue with the momentum as his batting position changed.
"7/10. He [KL Rahul] was great when he started the series at the top, then they moved him down. I thought he was hard done too. 8.5/10, I think he [Yashasvi Jaiswal] is the next superstar of the world game," said Michael Vaughan.
Jaiswal scored 391 runs in 10 innings at an average of 43.44. He hit 161 runs and two 80s in the series, helping India get to a good start in the series. On the other hand, Rahul was a perfect opening partner for him, scoring 234 runs in the first three Tests, including two half-centuries. The last two games didn't go as expected from the star batter. Among the batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed to perform well in the series. However, Kohli did have a century, while Rohit's performance was below par in all the games he played.
He’s a quality player: Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan also spoke about the newcomer of the Indian Cricket Team, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored a blistering century in the BGT series. He was just wonderful with the bat, rescuing India in crunch situations. Reddy proved to be one of the best lower-order batters India had been missing for a long time.
"He [Nitish Kumar Reddy] faltered at the back end in the last game but he’s a quality player. That hundred at MCG. The interview that Gilly gave, the broadcast with his father who still has got no clue what the questions were. I’m gonna give Nitish 8/10," added Vaughan.
