On January 25, Jammu and Kashmir made history at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC. They defeated Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match after a decade as Shardul Thakur’s knock of 119 runs, which came in the second innings, was washed out. Mumbai gave the target of 205 runs, which was chased by Jammu and Kashmir on Day 3 with five wickets left.
While chasing the target, top-order batters gave the team a good start as Shubham Khajuira scored 45 runs and Vivrant Sharma scored 34 runs before getting out. As the wickets fell, Kanhaiya Wadhawan and Abid Mushtaq took responsibility and chased the target set by the Mumbai team. Earlier, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the ODI and Test teams, made a comeback in the Ranji Trophy after a long gap.

Rohit Sharma's return didn’t go as per his plan, as in the first innings of the match, he went back to the dressing room on the score of three runs and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed cheaply as well. Other batters like Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Shivam Dube went on the low score as well, as Mumbai rapped the first innings score of 120 runs. Sahrdul Thakur saved the batting collapse. However, in reply to that score, Jammu and Kashmir scored 206 runs.
Jammu Kashmir last won against Mumbai in 2014
Going to bat in the second innings again, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to convert the good start and Mumbai's batting was in trouble. Mumbai lost seven wickets for just 101 runs on the scoreboard but Sahrdul Thakur and Tanush Kotian came in as saviours for the team. Tanush Kotian scored 62 runs and Shardul Thakur's knock of 119 runs saved Mumbai from humiliation. Mumbai posted a total of 290 and gave Jammu and Kashmir a target of 205 runs to chase.
In reply to the target set by Mumbai Jammu and Kashmir got a good start from the openers as Abid Mushtaq took his team to the finish line. While chasing the target, Jammu and Kashmir had to lose five wickets as Shams Mulani picked four for Mumbai. The last time Jammu and Kashmir won against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy was in 2014 at Wankhede Stadium. During that time, Suryakumar Yadav was the captain of the Mumbai Ranji team and both Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur were part of the team.
