United States of America batter Aaron Jones was the hero for Saint Lucia Kings on Sunday. The right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 48 runs from a mere 31 balls to help his Saint Lucia side to the CPL title. It was an easy win for the Kings' side as they beat the defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors.

At one stage Kings were way behind the 8 ball as they hadn’t scored a boundary for nearly ten overs. Faf Du Plessis’ six off Moeen Ali in the 6th over was the last boundary before Roston Chase went ballistic in the 16th over. The West Indian star scored 20 runs from 4 balls after Jones had scored 7 runs off first 2 balls.

Dwaine Pretorius then saw Jones hit him for 20 runs which meant that Kings had scored 47 runs from 12 balls. At one stage the equation read 66 runs needed from 30 balls. After the two-over blitz, the equation read 19 runs needed from 18 balls.

Romario Shepherd was given the ball to deliver the 18th over of the innings. With 16 needed from 16 balls, Jones hit a huge six off the former Proteas pacer. Imran Tahir’s wide ball meant that Saint Lucia Kings won the title. It was a disappointing loss as at one stage, the Warriors were in control of the game.

Credit goes to Aaron Jones who scored 48 not out from just 31 balls. His knock included four boundaries and 2 sixes, one of which went 92 meters off Pretorius. Once the title was secured all the players including coach Darren Sammy came running to the ground.

West Indian stars Romario Shepherd and Kevin Sinclair removed Johnson Charles and Ackeem Augustine for 7 and 13 runs. Moeen Ali got the huge wicket of Faf Du Plessis for 21 while Pretorius dismissed Tim Seifer for 3. Roston Chase was not out on 39 off 22 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Earlier in the day Guyana scored 138/8 from their 20 overs after batting first. Dwaine Pretorius with 25 and Shai Hope’s 22 were the top two scorers for Guyana. Noor Ahmad was the best bowler for Saint Lucia with 3/19 from 4 overs.

Speaking at the end of the game, batter Aaron Jones said “We always knew it would be a challenge, everyone in the camp was confident. I tried to get in and the coach and senior players told me that I’m the one to take the risk. I believe in myself as a match-winner. I knew I had to take my chances in that over against Moeen Ali, very happy that it all paid off”
