Guyana Amazon Warriors secured their place in the playoffs with a win over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. Moeen Ali decided to cause mayhem with the bat when he smashed Imad Wasim for 26 runs in the 19th over of the innings. 

Imad Wasim bowled a full toss which Moeen Ali hit for a four to start the over. The next three balls were hit for three sixes. The first six was pulled over the mid-wicket region. The next maximum was hit over the long-on region, followed by yet another six that was hit over the bowler's head. 

The Pakistani star bowled a dot ball in the 5th ball before Moeen Ali ended the over with a boundary. 26 runs came from the over to help the Amazon get the much-needed momentum. After 18 overs, Guyana was placed at 98/6 as Moeen Ali struggled to get going with the bat. 

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons knocked out of CPL 2024

Chris Green won the toss and put the Guyana Amazon Warriors into bat. it was a difficult wicket to bat on as Raymon Reifer scored 5 off 17 balls before falling to Mohammad Amir. Imad Wasim then got the wicket of Gudakesh Motie for 8 off 12 balls. 

Azam Khan batted for 24 balls to score 29 runs as he was dismissed by Hassan Khan. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer couldn’t do much with the bat as they fell after scoring 15 and 13 respectively. 

The best batter for Guyana was Moeen Ali who hit 42 off 33 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim picked 2 wickets each to become the best bowler for the Falcons. 

In reply, Kofi James was the best batter as he scored 27 off 23 balls with 3 fours and a six. The Falcons were bowled out for 108 to lose by 27 runs. Dwaine Pretorius and Moeen Ali picked 3 wickets for the Guyana side. 

Winning captain Imran Tahir said at the end of the game, “We knew it was going to be difficult. We wanted a better powerplay. It's quite tough for the batters. Moeen played really well and that one overchanged the game. We knew 135-40 we can defend as a bowling unit.”

Losing skipper Chris Green said, “It was a pity for us. Wanted to finish on a high and also keep our slim chances away. Pleased with the bowling effort. That over where Moeen took 26 was the difference.”
