Indian cricket team won the Champions Trophy for the third time after beating New Zealand in a pulsating final. The Men in Blue won the game by four wickets with an over to spare. Former skipper Virat Kohli who scored just one run grabbed headlines after the game was done.

Kohli, could be seen walking with pacer Mohammed Shami wearing the white jackets given to the winners. India’s former skipper touched Shami’s mother’s feet as he spotted her and the video has now gone viral. The 36-year-old also clicked pictures with other members of Shami’s family at the end of the game. 

Ravindra Jadeja hit William O Rourke for a four to signal the huge win as India won their seventh ICC title. Kohli had played a key role with the bat for India during the tournament with his knock of 100 versus Pakistan in the league and 84 against Australia in the semi-finals. Shami is one of India’s best bowlers with nine wickets and the second highest wicket taker of the tournament behind Matt Henry’s ten wickets. 

‘Wanted to bounce back after Australia tour’ – Virat Kohli 

The last few months have been tough for Indian cricket team with home series whitewash to New Zealand. This was followed by their 3-1 loss to Australia in Border Gavaskar Trophy. Team India also failed to qualify for the World Test Championship after being at the top of the table. 

Speaking to the host broadcaster after the game, Kohli said, “It's been amazing firstly, we wanted to bounce back after a tough Australia tour, wanted to win a big tournament and we ended up doing that. It's an amazing feeling. Lovely playing with a bunch of such amazing youngsters. So much talent in the changeroom, they're taking Indian cricket forward in the right direction.”

With 218 runs in the tournament, Kohli ended his Champions Trophy career with 747 runs from 18 matches. The former Indian skipper has scored his runs with an average of 74.7 and a strike rate of 89 with one century and six fifties. Kohli was out for just one run on Sunday and will finish 44 runs adrift of the all-time top scorer Chris Gayle who has 791 runs in Champions Trophy history.
