The tweet garnered a lot of attention and left many fans stunned, confused, and genuinely excited. Sydney Sixers, though, put paid to any hopes of Kohli playing in the Big Bash League as they followed it up and wrote “April Fools”. As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), no centrally contracted players can take part in overseas leagues.

Dinesh Karthik recently became the first Indian to play in the SA20 league for the Paarl Royals. The 39-year-old had hung up his boots as an active cricketer at the end of the IPL 2024 season for RCB and is currently part of the backroom staff. Kohli and the rest of the RCB side are getting ready to take on Gujarat Titans in the third game of their season on Wednesday.

In a recent event held by RCB, Kohli was asked about his future plans as far as international cricket is concerned. The 36-year-old was part of the team that won the recent Champions Trophy 2025 title under Rohit Sharma in Dubai. Addressing this, Kohli said, “The next big step? I don’t know, maybe try to win the next World Cup”. Kohli has won the 2011 World Cup as well as one T20 World Cup and two Champions Trophy titles.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has already hinted that he is also gunning to win the big prize in 2027. Team India will next travel to England for the five-match Test series that begins on 20th June. This will be the start of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Coming back to the ongoing season of the IPL, the game between RCB and Gujarat is set to be a massive encounter. Chinnaswamy Stadium could witness a huge run-scoring game on Wednesday. RCB began the season with wins over Kolkata and Chennai to go top of the table. Gujarat, on the other hand, lost their opening game to Punjab before rebounding with a win over Mumbai last Saturday.
