Indian Cricket Team and its players are the most sought after in the world. For every young player who takes up the sport dreams of playing for the national side. In a country where education holds utmost importance many parents want their children to get a degree. 

15th of September is celebrated as the World Engineers Day. it is done to celebrate the birth of M. Visvesvaraya and his contributions to the field. Some of the Indian cricket stars have admitted to not completed their education. 

There are few Indian cricket stars who have gone on to fulfil their academic qualification. Some of these players have done engineering and also went onto achieve laurels and glory for the national side in the cricket field.

5- Krishnamachari Srikkanth

Days before the emergence of Sanath Jayasuriya and Virender Sehwag, there was Kris Srikkanth. The right-handed batter became one of the most attacking and dangerous batting during the 1980’s. Kris Srikkanth formed an able partnership with Sunil Gavaskar at the top of the order. 

Kris Srikkanth is one of the few Indian cricketers with engineering degrees. The former Indian opener holds a degree in electrical engineering from College of Engineering in Guindy. The 64-year-old played 43 Tests for India with 2062 runs with 2 centuries and 12 fifties. 

Srikkanth also played 146 ODI matches and scored 4091 runs with 4 centuries and 27 fifties. The former Indian star also picked 25 wickets with two fifers and was part of the team that won the 1983 ODI World Cup and 1985 World Series in Australia. 

4- Erapalli Prasanna

One of the best bowlers in the 1970’s Erapalli Prasanna was a huge part of the Indian spin quartet. Erapalli Prasanna was a student of the National Institute of Engineering from Mysuru. The 84-year-old made his name as being a spinner who could outfox the batter with his mastery and craft. 

Prasanna played 49 Test matches for India and picked 189 wickets with a best of 8/76. The off spinner also had 10 fifers along with 2 wicket haul in a game. The man from Karnataka played for 16 and ended with 957 wickets in his first-class career.

Former Indian speedster Javagal Srinath was an underrated bowler for the best of his international career. The pace bowler from Karnataka has a degree in engineering from the Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering in Mysuru. This makes Javagal Srinath as one of the few Indian cricketers with engineering degree. 

Srinath on his day could touch 150 KPH with ease and trouble the best of batters. The former Indian star played 67 Test matches and picked 236 wickets with a best of 8/86. He also had 10 fifers and one ten wicket haul, while also picking further 315 wickets from 229 ODI wickets with 3 fifers. 

2- Ravichandran Ashwin

The best bowler in the world in the current era, Ravichandran Ashwin is known to be a thinking cricketer. The 38-year-old has an engineering degree in BTECH in Information and Technology from SSN College in Chennai. 

Ravichandran Ashwin has played 100 Tests for India and picked 516 wickets. The right arm spinner also has 36 fifers and 8 occasions where he picked ten in a game. Apart from his bowling, Ashwin has also scored over 3000 runs with five Test tons. 

In the white ball format, Ashwin has played 116 ODI matches and picked 156 wickets. In the T20 format, Ashwin has played 65 matches and picked 72 wickets with a best of 4/8 and an economy rate of 6.9 runs per over.

The greatest bowler ever to play for India, Anil Kumble is the only bowler with over 600 Test wickets. The former Indian captain and coach for the better part of two decades was the man who led India to many wins. Anil Kumble is one of the few cricketers with an engineering degree. The legendary has a mechanical engineering degree from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering. 

Anil Kumble played 132 Tests for India and picked 619 wickets. The former Indian star became the 2nd ever player to pick all ten wickets in an innings vs Pakistan in 1999. The former Indian captain also scored 2506 runs with one century and 5 fifties. 

In the ODI Anil Kumble is also the leading wicket taker for India with 337 wickets from 271 games. His best of 6/12 came against West Indies in the final of Hero Cup 1993 which is one of the two times he picked a fifer in the ODI format.
