The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA is slowly witnessing the end of the Group phase matches. Five teams have made it through to the Super-8 stages after their splendid showing in the early phase of the tournament. 

England who are the defending champions posted a massive win over Oman to register their first win of the campaign. Chasing a mere 48 runs to win, England got to the target with 8 wickets and 101 balls left to play. 

This win now means that all England has to do is beat Namibia and pray that Australia can beat Scotland in their game. If Scotland lose to Australia and the English win their match then Jos Buttler’s side will make it to the Super-8 stages as the 2nd best team in Group B.

5. India with 81 balls remaining vs Scotland – 2021

The 2021 T20 World Cup is one to forget for many Indian fans as they exited the tournament in the first round. India had to beat Scotland by a good margin to keep their hopes alive during that edition. After bowling out Scotland for 85 in the 18th over, India got to their target in 6.3 overs. KL Rahul scored 50 off mere 18 balls while Rohit Sharma scored of 30 off 16 balls. 

4. Australia with 82 balls remaining vs Bangladesh – 2021

The Australians under Aaron Finch were ruthless during the T20 World Cup 2021 edition. Adam Zampa with 5/19 helped his team skittle out Bangladesh for a score of 73 in 15 overs. Needing 74 to win, Australia won the match in 6.2 overs to register one of the biggest wins in the T20 World Cup. Aaron Finch was the best batter with 40 off 20 balls with 2 fours and 4 huge sixes. 

3. Australia with 86 balls remaining vs Namibia – 2024

The Australia vs Namibia contest was a lop-sided affair as Mitchell Marsh and his side won the game with 86 balls to spare. Namibia batting first were bowled out for 72 with Adam Zampa picking 4/12 from his overs. Travis Head then scored an unbeaten 34 off 17 balls to help his side win the contest with 9 wickets in hand. This is the 3rd highest win in T20 World Cups with balls remaining. 

2. Sri Lanka with 90 balls remaining vs Netherlands -2014

Three wickets each by Ajantha Mendis and Angelo Mathews meant that Netherlands were bowled out for 39. This is the joint lowest total in the history of T20 World Cups. Sri Lanka who won the title that year chased down the target with 90 balls to play as they won the match 9 wickets. This win is still the second-best in T20 World Cup history in terms of balls remaining.

1. England with 101 balls remaining vs Oman – 2024

Ten years after Sri Lanka beat Netherlands to set a new record, England smashed it against Oman. Jos Buttler’s side bowled out Oman for just 47 with Adil Rashid taking 4/11 while Jofra Archer and Mark Wood picked 3 wickets each. Phil Salt hit 12 runs off 3 balls while Buttler scored 24 off 8 to record the biggest win in T20 World Cup history.
