Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) yet again laid down the marker with the bat in their opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. Rajasthan Royals (RR) were carted all over the park as the 2016 IPL winners ended their innings with 286 runs for the loss of six wickets from 20 overs. Ishan Kishan scored 106, not out, as SRH just fell one run short of their own highest IPL total of 287 that was against RCB last year. 

Jofra Archer, who made his return to the Rajasthan Royals, went for 76 runs from his four overs. The English pacer went wicketless with the ball and endured a tough day on the field as Travis Head and Ishan Kishan tore into Archer’s bowling. The Australian batter hit Archer for a huge 105-meter six to record the biggest hit of the season. 

Sandeep Sharma and Umesh Yadav had conceded 65 runs from their four overs to record one of the costliest bowling spells in the IPL. 3 Basil Thampi – 0/70 for SRH vs RCB in IPL 2018

Kerala pacer Basil Thampi is third on the list of the costliest bowling figures in the IPL. The right-arm seamer gave away 70 runs while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2018 season. RCB managed to score 218 on the board with AB De Villiers and Moeen Ali scoring fifties. In reply, SRH lost the match by 14 runs, despite Kane Williamson scoring 81 runs. 

2: Mohit Sharma – 0/73 for GT vs DC in IPL 2024

 Former India pacer Mohit Sharma takes the second spot in the costliest ever bowling figures in IPL history. The right seamer was smashed for 73 runs when he was playing for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 season. Delhi had batted first and scored 224 on the board thanks to Rishabh Pant’s 43-ball 88. Gujarat lost the game by four runs as Sai Sudharsan and David Miller scored fifties in a losing cause.

The costliest bowling spell in IPL history belongs to England pacer Jofra Archer. The 29-year-old gave away 76 runs from his four wicketless overs. SRH scored 286 from their 20 overs with Ishan Kishan scoring an unbeaten ton. Archer began by giving away 21 runs from his opening over. In his third over, the England star was hit for 23 runs to endure a horrible day with the ball.
