Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been once again sidelined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As they released the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, Gaikwad didn't find a place in the squad, which was quite disappointing. This seemed more problematic as the selectors rested Shubman Gill but still didn't give Gaikwad a chance. The CSK skipper is set to lead the Rest of India squad in the Irani Cup 2024 but isn't considered by BCCI in the T20I series.

Moreover, the team has just one specialist opener for now, Abhishek Sharma. This decision has raised a lot of criticism against the Board and the selectors for ignoring Gaikwad time and again. For the 3-match T20I series, Sanju Samson finally gets his place back in the team. Apart from him, Mayank Yadav received his maiden national call-up from BCCI ahead of the series. After three years of break, KKR's Varun Chakravarty got a chance on the team.

India’s squad for the T20I series: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav

BCCI to go with Impact Player Rule until IPL 2027

The Board has released a set of rules ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which seemed to favor the Indian players. However, they have decided to go with the Impact Player Rule until 2027. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were some of the star players who spoke against the Impact Player Rule since it doesn't give the all-rounders a chance to showcase their talent.

Apart from this, BCCI has also allowed the retention of uncapped players in the squad, and a maximum of two players can be retained. The basic rule is that if a player hasn't played an international game for five years, they will come under the uncapped category. The CSK franchise will be the happiest at the moment as they can retain MS Dhoni now under the uncapped category as he retired from international cricket in 2019.
