Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners, Mumbai Indians (MI), easily swatted aside Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to win their fourth successive game of the season. Hardik Pandya and his men cruised home to a seven-wicket win with 26 balls to spare and moved to third spot in the points table. After having won just one game from their first five encounters, MI’s changing fortunes have got huge appreciation from former India player Piyush Chawla.

The 36-year-old was part of MI’s team in the previous two seasons before being released at the end of the campaign in 2024. Trent Boult’s four-wicket haul and Rohit Sharma’s 70-run knock helped Mumbai win the game with ease. Suryakumar Yadav then added the finishing touches with his unbeaten 40 off just 19 balls.

During his chat on Jio Hotstar at the end of the game, Chawla, as quoted by NDTV, was heard saying, “They are on a roll at the moment. The kind of cricket they are playing, all the games they've won recently have been convincing victories. They haven't really had to struggle. This is why we always say Mumbai Indians is a team that knows how to make a comeback and take the lead."

Piyush Chawla heaps praise on Rohit Sharma

One batter who didn’t start the IPL 2025 campaign well was Rohit Sharma, who was struggling for runs. The 37-year-old has now scored two successive half-centuries to play a key role in MI’s change in fortunes. Rohit Sharma and the rest of MI will now head back home to take on Lucknow Super Giants in what will be a key encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Talking about Rohit Sharma, the former MI player said, “Earlier, there were concerns about Rohit Sharma not scoring runs, but in the last two games, he has stepped up. Hardik Pandya is in great form, both with the bat and ball, which gives him a lot of confidence and that reflects in his captaincy as well.”

Piyush Chawla also praised India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for his batting in the last few matches and said “We all know what Suryakumar Yadav is capable of when he gets going. In the last game, we saw a great innings from him, which must have given him a lot of confidence. He came in with a clear plan. He took 3-4 balls to get his eye in, then started playing his signature sweeps and some classy shots over cover. The way he batted today, he looked like the Suryakumar Yadav we all know, a batter who can dominate any bowling attack. It was just brilliant,"
