Bangladesh vs Nepal (Source-ICC)
Bangladesh became the last team to confirm their place in the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup. Najmul Shanto and his team beat Nepal by 21 runs to ensure their safe passage into the next round.
It was yet another low scoring encounter in St. Vincent as Bangladesh were dismissed for 106 in the 20th over. It was Rohit Kumar Paudel who won the toss for Nepal and asked the opposition to bat first.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the destroyer in chief with the ball as the young pacer ended with 4/7 from his 4 overs. Only three Nepal batters managed to reach double figures as their batting capitulated against a strong Bangladeshi bowling unit.
Bangladesh cruise into Super-8’s with easy win over Nepal
Sompal Kami gave Nepal a great start when he had the wicket of Tanzid Hasan in the very first ball of the match. Dipendra Singh then struck when he went past the defence of skipper Shanto for 4 to leave Bangladesh at 10/2 in the 2nd over.
Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan tried their best to build a stand but the Nepal bowlers didn’t let that happen. Wickets fell at regular intervals as none of the batters from Bangladesh could manage to get past 20.
Shakib Al Hasan with 17 from 22 balls was the best batter for Bangladesh. Mahmudullah and Rishad Hossain scored 13 each while Jaker Ali and Taskin Ahmed managed to score 12 runs apiece.
Chasing 107 to win, Nepal lost Kushal Bhurtel in the 3rd over for 4 runs when he saw his stumps knocked over Tanzim Hasan Sakib. The same bowler then struck two balls later when he dismissed Anil Sah for a duck. Rohit Kumar Paudel and Sandeep Jora also fell to Tanzim to leave Nepal struggling at 26/5.
Asif Sheikh was out to Mustafizur Rahman after scoring 17 runs from 14 balls. Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee staged a fight back as the pair added 52 runs for the 6th wicket in 58 balls.
That stand was broken when Malla was out for 27 dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman. The veteran pacer then bowled a wicket-maiden in the 19th over to end the hopes for the Nepal. In the end, Bangladesh won by 21 runs to move into the Super-8’s irrespective of the result from Netherlands and Sri Lanka match.
