England turned around the Group 2 of T20 World Cup’s Super 8 stage with their massive win over USA. The defending champions against all odds became the first ever side to make it to the Semi-Finals post that win.

The focus was on the 2nd match of the day on Sunday between hosts West Indies and South Africa. Rovman Powell’s side came into the contest knowing they had to beat South Africa to keep their hopes alive. By the end of the 1st innings the Caribbean side could only score 135/8 thanks to the brilliance of the South African bowlers.

Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bowl first as both teams made one change. The hosts decided to bring in Kyle Mayers to replace Johnson Charles who had failed to score with the bat. Ottneil Baartman made way for Tabraiz Shamsi as the only change for the South African side.

Tabraiz Shamsi pegs back West Indies with spirited performance

Put into bat, West Indies lost Shai Hope in the very second ball of the game for a duck. The right-handed batter who had scored 82 in the previous match was dismissed by Marco Jansen. Skipper Aiden Markram then got the biggest scalp when he dismissed Nicholas Pooran for a golden duck.

Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase then added 81 runs for the 3rd wicket in under 11 overs before the stand was broken. Tabraiz Shamsi dismissed Mayers for 35 off 34 balls when he was caught by Stubbs.

Keshav Mahraj then got the wicket of Rovman Powell for a duck while, Shamsi removed Rutherford and Chase. The home crowd were left in complete silence as the Proteas bowlers were having a vice like grip over the home team.

None of the batters could put up a fight as Roston Chase was the best batter for West Indies with 52. His knock came off 42 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Andre Russell hit two massive sixes in his 15 run knock before he was run out thanks to Nortje’s smart piece of fielding. It is a key game for the home team as a loss would mean an end to their hopes of making it to the final four.
