The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is one of its kind of an edition in the entire history of the T20 World Cup since its inception 17 years back in 2007. Notably, it is the first time that 20 teams are participating in the tournament, the highest ever in the history of the tournament.

Meanwhile, a lot of statistical milestones have been achieved so far in the tournament, including the batters, and bowlers, both in the individual achievements and duo records, alongside the team achievements.

Having said that, here we’ll have a look at all the milestones achieved so far in the ongoing 9th edition of the T20 World Cup.

Mitchell Starc – Most wickets in men’s World Cups

The veteran Australia pacer Mitchell Starc is one of the modern-day bowling greats, owing to his amazing performances in the major ICC tournaments. He has been one of the leading wicket-takers in the history of the ODI World Cup. Besides that, Starc is also on the list of the leading wicket-takers in the T20 World Cup.

In the current edition of the World T20, Starc achieved an amazing milestone as he registered the record of scalping the highest number of wickets in the men’s World Cups, including both T20 and ODI World Cup. He has now 95 wickets to his name in the men’s World Cups, surpassing former Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga.

West Indies – Equalling the record of most runs in an over in T20I

A record for the highest number of runs was set in the inaugural edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007. It came when the former legendary India batter Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad, getting 36 runs in an over, the most by any batter in the history of the T20 World Cup.

In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies equalled this record in the last group-stage clash against Afghanistan. With this, the Caribbean side became the second team to score 36 runs in an over.

Pat Cummins – 7th Hat-trick in T20 World Cup History

The star Australia pacer and World Champion ODI and Test skipper, Pat Cummins added another feather to his glorious cap. Cummins scalped the iconic ‘hat-trick’ against Bangladesh in the super-8 stage game. Cummins came to bowl the 18th over against Bangladesh in the first innings of the game, in which he scalped 2 wickets on the last two balls of the over.

Later in the last over of the innings, he dismissed Towhid Hridoy to complete his hat-trick; with this, he has also become the 7th bowler to scalp the hat-trick in the history of the T20 World Cup. Earlier, Brett Lee in 2007, Curtis Campher in 2021, Wanindu Hasaranga in 2021, Kagiso Rabada in 2021, Karthik Meiyappan in 2022, and Josh Little in 2022 were the previous achievers to reach this feat.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz – Ibrahim Zadran – Second highest opening partnership

Star opening pair of Afghanistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran stitched an outstanding opening partnership of 154 runs in the group-stage game against Uganda. With this, they have also become the second opening pair to have the highest opening partnership in the history of the tournament.

The Gurbaz-Zadran duo is now just behind England’s Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, who stitched unbeaten 170 runs for the first wicket against India in the 2nd semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.
