India finally ended their drought for an ICC trophy after 11 years, while South Africa’s quest for a World Cup title continues. The Men in Blue handed the Proteas a heartbreaking seven-run defeat in an edge-of-the-seat thrilling final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday.

Batting first, India posted the highest-ever total in a T20 World Cup final (176-7). Virat Kohli’s brilliant half-century and Axar Patel’s vital 47 off 31 were the leading forces for Team India. In reply, South Africa got off to a shaky start with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep striking early on.

However, de Kock and Tristan Stubbs brought them back into the game with a 50-plus partnership for the third wicket. India then gained control, but with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller in the middle, the game was evenly balanced. But the Indian pacers pulled things back in the death overs.

When 16 runs were needed in the final over, Suryakumar Yadav took one of the greatest catches to dismiss the dangerous Miller on the very first ball. Hardik Pandya then held his nerve and gave his team a thrilling seven-run victory. Let’s take a look at the list of all winners of the tournament.
