Rohit Sharma and his Indian team ended their wait for an ICC title. The Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in the final of the tournament. The margin of win was 7 overs as the Indian bowlers pulled it back with Heinrich Klaasen going all guns blazing.
Axar Patel was smashed for 24 runs in the 15th over as the equation came down to run-a-ball. Jasprit Bumrah bowled two tremendous overs, which included the wicket of Marco Jansen in his final over to bring India back into the contest.
Hardik Pandya struck the decisive blow of the game when he got the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen. The Indian all-rounder then got the wicket of David Miller in the final over of the game thanks to an amazing catch by Suryakumar Yadav. The Indian star then got the wicket of Kagiso Rabada to seal the deal for India.
Team India holds their nerves to win the T20 World Cup
South Africa were placed at 12/2 in the 3rd over as they lost Reeza Hendricks to Jasprit Bumrah. This was followed by the wicket of Aiden Markram to Arshdeep Singh before Quinton De Kock and Tristan Stubbs combined to add 58 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Axar Patel then got the big wicket of Stubbs as the South African batter was bowled for 31 runs. This is when Heinrich Klaasen came to the crease and added 36 runs for the 4th wicket with Quinton De Kock.
Just when it seemed that the game was moving away, Arshdeep Singh got the key wicket of Quinton De Kock for 39. At that stage, South Africa needed 71 runs from 45 balls before Klaasen went on a rampage.
The South African star went after Axar Patel, hitting him for sixes and fours as the Indian shoulders began to droop. Needing 26 off 24 balls, Klaasen went after a wide ball from Pandya as he nicked behind to Pant for 52 off 27 balls with 2 fours and five sixes.
That was the moment India needed as they showed their experience with the ball and won the game. The Indian team was in tears as the last ball was bowled and the wait for an ICC title was finally over.
