Suryakumar Yadav set to miss Duleep Trophy 2024 opening round of matches

Indian star batter Suryakumar Yadav is set to face the first round of Duleep Trophy 2024. The 33-year-old suffered an injury while playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament match against Tamil Nadu. 

As per reports carried out by PTI, it was confirmed by a source in the BCCI that Yadav will not take the field. Suryakumar Yadav was set to turn out for India C against India D during the first round that was set to commence on 5th September. Suryakumar Yadav had made himself available for the series in a bid to make it to the Indian test Team.

Suryakumar has played only one Test for India during the 2023 home series against Australia in Nagpur. It is learned that Suryakumar Yadav is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. India’s T20I skipper has been going through the necessary treatment to make it back to the field. 

Massive concerns for India ahead of long season 

The latest injury setback suffered by Suryakumar Yadav will be a huge concern for the BCCI. Suryakumar Yadav was aiming to be selected for the series against Bangladesh where the teams will play two Test matches. 

Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, even pacers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have been ruled out. Ravindra Jadeja has sought some time off from the game and was released by the BCCI. 

Indian pacer Navdeep Saini and domestic star Gaurav Yadav have been called up as the replacements for Siraj and Malik. It isn’t clear who will replace Suryakumar Yadav in the India C squad for the opening game. 

Team India also tour South Africa for a four-match T20I series where Yadav will be the captain. The last time Suryakumar Yadav played for India was during the T20I series against Sri Lanka which India won 3-0.
