Australian batting superstar Steve Smith recently sat down to speak with Code Sports. The 35-year-old was asked to throw light on the snub he got from the Australian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Cricket fans were shocked when Steve Smith was included in the Australian squad which failed to make it to the semi-finals.

Speaking about the snub, Steve Smith said “You’ll have to ask the men in charge but I’m not fussed either way”. Australia who had won the title in 2021 failed to make it to the final four after successive losses to India and Afghanistan.

The focus for Steve Smith is now looking ahead to the huge Border-Gavaskar trophy versus India. The series is set to start with the first Test being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth starting on 22nd November.

Steve Smith speaks on opening the batting

Ever since the retirement of David Warner, the Australian Test side has tasked Steve Smith with the job of opening the batting. The right-handed batter had defiantly put up a fight during the loss to West Indies earlier this year at the Gabba.

Speaking about opening the batting, Smith said “Some challenging conditions with the new ball, in particular. So I would have liked to score a few more runs. That’s the game sometimes but I played pretty well in the second innings at the Gabba where we couldn’t get over the line, unfortunately. It’s just a position to me so it doesn’t really faze me too much.”

Just a few days ago, Steve Smith had hinted that he would be open to making his return to the IPL. Steve Smith last played for Delhi Capitals during the 2021 season and hasn’t opted to put his name up for selection since then.

While speaking about it to Code Sports, the Aussie batter said “That’s the game sometimes but I played pretty well in the second innings at the Gabba where we couldn’t get over the line, unfortunately. It’s just a position to me so it doesn’t really faze me too much.”

When quizzed about the snub from the International T20 team, Smith said “I was disappointed not to be in the World Cup but that’s the way things go. They wanted all the big hitters. I don’t know about international T20 stuff. You’ll have to ask the selectors there”
